D: is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error?
I currently have a Toshiba Satellite laptop running Windows XP Home Edition Version ’02 SP1 and I get this error all the time. I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-811 drive (I cannot find any newer drivers to roll back to).The computer seems to only want to read any CD in the drive on it’s own time and sometimes when I close the lid and open it back up. I’ve tried almost everything I am wondering is there anything more I can do before I finally just have to replace this drive and hope for the best?
I have already found a page on Micosoft.com explaining about the IDE ATA/ATPAI Controllers. Also “I enable CD recording on this drive” which only worked for a while but when I tried to open the disk from my computer it did not read anything on the disk. I am not sure if a cable is loose somewhere and if that is the case i'm not sure how to tighten it.

GET SP 2 right away!!!! and keep up with windows updates, sometimes the updates help with the problem. Alot of times D:/ is a CD or DVD drive, if you cannot open it or read from a CD/DVD from it then it needs to be looked at by a professional.
