power supply comparison?
whats are some differences between the
CORSAIR Builder Series CX600 (CMPSU-600CX) 600W ATX12V v2.3 Active PFC Power Supply
and the
CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC
besides the amount of watts? because i want just the 600w but if its bad would i be better off with the 650 watt?
A large amount of power supplies (almost all) are made by different manufacturers, then "re-branded" and sold.

I don't know why gpotvin said to buy a PSU from a better, larger power supply company...as Corsair IS one of the known quality power supply brands out there.
The following are the known, quality, and reliable PSU brands:
- Corsair (a.k.a. SeaSonic)
- Antec
- XFX
- Sapphire
- Enermax
- PC Power & Cooling
- Silver Stone
- OCZ (not as good as compared to Silver Stone, Corsair..but still not bad)
- Cooler Master (Their 80+ Gold certified PSU's..other then that, don't bother)
There are dozens of other brands out there (Hec, Apevia, Cougar, and Raidmax just to name a few), and they are HORRIBLE! Cheap components used. NEVER BUY FROM THOSE!
When looking at power supplies, you should be looking at the amount of amperage (A) it can supply from the +12v rail(s). The wattage labelled is simply a general "guide."
The Corsair CX600 provides a maximum of 40A = ~36A continuous.
The Corsair TX 650W provides a maximum of 53A = ~ 48A continuous.
For a basic system with:
- one CPU
- one or two mid-range graphics card (Radeon HD 6850's, GTX 550Ti's, etc)
- 1 or 2 hard drives
- a couple of LED case fans,
the CX600 will be plenty.
For a more power hungry system like:
- highly overclocked CPU
- power hungry graphics card (GTX 580, Radeon 6990) or dual GPUs
- 4+ hard drives
- overclocked RAM
the TX650 OR better will be the wiser choice.
If you have a gaming rig, or plan to upgrade to a more powerful system, a bigger PSU would be ideal. If not, a 600W would be fine.
If you are planning to actually make a gaming, dual-graphics card powerhouse system, I'd recommend that you go for either:
- Corsair TX / HX 750 or 850
- XFX 750W or 850W
- Antec 750W or 850W
Also, it better to get a power supply that has a single powerful +12v rail as opposed to several "weaker" +12v rails. Why? It eliminates the need to balance your power draw. Im not saying a multi-rail power supply is bad (as it does provides more stability).
I'm using a Corsair TX850 for my gaming system, and it doing really good. No odd/loud noises coming from it, runs cool, stable & reliable brand...It's powering a gaming rig with:
- Phenom II six-core @ 4GHz
- Two overclock Radeon HD 5850 graphics cards
- 8GB of Overclocked RAM
- several hard drives
- A couple of LED case fans (ranging from 120mm to 230mm)
- A nice gaming motherboard (ASUS Crosshair IV Formula)
...and the power supply still has enough power left over for more upgrades! (A third graphics card maybe? haha)
