Another Pro Tools question..?
I'm looking at an Avid 003 Factory for Pro Tools LE which is my ideal product to run PT through, but it's way out of my price range..
That being said, I was thinking of buying an M-Audio Fast Track (maybe Pro) interface with Pro Tools M-Audio and just running a mixer through that. Now I know it wouldn't be nearly as good as running PT through an Avid 003 Factory, but I was just wondering if running a normal mixer through a fast track would even work (connecting the guitars and mics to the mixers and then to the fast track).
And I know you're probably sick of this question, but also what's the differences between PT LE and M-Audio?
Thanks.
The answer is that it would work but may just be unnecessary money to spend. The way to do it would be to user the mixers pre-amps and send that signal into the +4 inputs on your interface. Then run your interface's outputs back into your mixer. This will allow you to control the signal that you're hearing but not the signal in Pro Tools. You then need to figure out how to get your mixer's mix off of your mixer and either back into Pro Tools or into a 2Track of some sort. It would be much more cost effective to entirely skip the mixer and just mix within Pro Tools. Hell, if you don't spend the money on a mixer you could probably afford a better interface than the fast track.
As for the difference between LE and M-Powered: They are identical on a software level. The only difference is that LE will only use Avid interfaces and M-Powered will only use M-Audio interfaces.
Hope this helps,
