Why isn't my MIDI keyboard working right?
I have a Yamaha Portatone PSR- E313 YPT-310. My computer is running Vista. I have a Hosa USB to MIDI connector. In FL6, when I play a note on my keyboard, the note plays indefinitely like the key is being held down. Also, I can't play another note until after a few seconds. I plugged it up to my Mac in Garageband and got the same problem. Help?
Hi,
This isn't a full answer, but you will need to identify which of the parts is causing the issue. To do this, you'll need to try a different keyboard with your USB/MIDI adapter or try a different USB/MIDI adapter.
From the way you have described it, it seems to be getting the "key down" MIDI signal, but not the "key up" signal when you take you finger off the keyboard, although even if this is true, you should be able to play another note, as MIDI is fine with multiple keys being pressed - my gut feeling would suggest that it is the USB/MIDI connector that is at fault.
If you don't know anyone you can check your device with, head to your local music shop and ask nicely and they might let you plug your stuff in to their equipment - explain that you will obviously need to replace the offending item, let them assume that you will be buying said replacement from them...you can always say you need to think about the options if you want to buy the replacement off the net.
Best of luck.
